Whenever I see a Vintages release from Germany for $12, I think back to the good old days and hope that this will be one of those rare “great finds” that will have me buying wines by the case.
I didn’t get exactly what I was hoping for but this simple Riesling remains attractive for the price. Upfront on the nose and palate is very apparent peach and sweet pink grapefruit and there’s a clean minerality that comes through on the finish which is not quite abrupt but it is short.
There’s a pretty floral scent to entice you further with a lemon and sweet herb closing note. If you needed further convincing that this modest wine is still worth the money, it is also classified as vegan and organic. It’s also quite dry but in no way astringent.
This is definitely a hot weather wine to enjoy with a lunchtime salad with a side of poached shrimp in a chervil beurre blanc.
This is a wine scheduled to be released on Saturday July 5, 2025, and as of this writing there are approximately 400 bottles in the Ottawa market.
