Fun label and fun wine. This is one of the times your expectations of the label lead to a similar appreciation for what’s in the bottle.

Rosehall Run is arguably one of the better wineries in Prince Edward County and they demonstrate year for year how far PEC has come as a wine making region.

Indigo is a sparkler made in the Charmat method, meaning that the secondary fermentation (for the bubbles) takes place in a fermentation tank rather than in a bottle as in Champagne. It’s a blend of Riesling and Gewurztraminer grapes sourced from both their estate vineyards in PEC as well as from Niagara.

At 12 g/l of residual sugar you can start to consider this an off-dry wine but with sufficient acidity to strike a pleasant balance. It has a good ripeness that provides a warm and round mouthfeel with a medium-length finish.

As it’s made from two aromatic grape varieties, it’s juicy with peach, lemon zest, white flowers, honey and a bit of orange marmalade at the finish.

This is so easy-drinking that I recommend it as an aperitif or even as a base for a cocktail but it could easily stand up to a dish of lemon chicken tajine with olives.

As of this writing there are approximately 20 bottles in the Ottawa market. As this is a general list item, you can expect restocking or contact the winery for your bottles.
