This is much more my style of Chardonnay: crisp yet phenolically ripe with a round mid-palate and a zesty finish.

Mountadam was established in 1972 and has become famous for its cool(er) climate wine making.

Wine lovers will be familiar with the big and bombastic, high-alcohol wines that Australia produces. Yet where I find the greatest rewards are in the country's cool climate regions such as Eden and Clare Valleys and most especially in Western Australia’s Margaret River.

Back to the Mountadam and a word of caution to the consumer: double check the label. While this wine is very reasonably priced at $18.95 the LCBO has a second Mountadam Chardonnay with a similar name and almost identical label. It’s $30 and you may make a mistake.

This Chardonnay brings a bit of elegance to the glass with a quartz-like cool texture on the palate, slightly underripe nectarine, the waxiness of Marcona almonds and a long lime zest finish. Truly appetite inducing and an example of Australian winemaking that defies expectations.
